Good luck, back luck – waiting in a line Living in an urban part of the state where nature and wildlife exists in abundance, you never know what might turn up. And when the second most toxic land snake known to man i.e. The Eastern Brown snake decides to pay a visit, you never know quite how you should react. It was about 1:30 pm one sunny afternoon at home. We were having a few drinks with family members when the doorbell rang and a stranger and his girlfriend with anxious looks on their faces explained to us that they’d called the police and if we left it alone -it wouldn’t bother us. “It”, being a 2 metre long Eastern Brown Snake that had entered the garden through a gap under the side gate and was making its way to the patio doors. To be honest, we weren’t overly panicked, we were more concerned about the dog or the cat having a go at it-we have no small kids and fortunately, contrary to our fears the pets were nowhere to be seen. Armed with beer cans to the ready, we ventured outside to see and sure enough. Just around the house by the side gate there she was, a beautiful Eastern Brown. As soon as she saw us she reared up in its infamous “S” shape-and grissed ready to strike; its distinctive orange specks on the cream underbelly flashing up at us. The three of us moved no further and to our relief the snake likewise was not going to advance either. To me she seemed like a strange, sad and cumbersome lady, lost in a maze of residential “Sundayland”, whose usual inhabitants consist of Sunday car-washers, lawn-mowers, kids on bikes and the occasional Mr Softy ice-cream man. Realizing we were no threat to her, nor she us, she lowered her guard and prepared to retreat. She slithered out across the front garden and seemed to hover in the middle of the road for quite a while before sliding lazily into the grassland area. Apart from the other animals that venture into the gardens or garages around here, a deadly snake is a rare treat indeed and apparently a sign of very good luck. If Steve Irwin had been around, he’d have grabbed this “beauty” by the neck and admired her close-up. This made me realize how similar we humans are to the animals around us. If we leave alone, we’ll be left alone. Of course if Steve had “left alone” he’d still be alive and not famous nor well known… When strangers wander in… Unfortunately or fortunately- curiosity killed the cat, there’s no luck or un luck in it. But you know -this only applies to humans. Animals aren’t curious creatures. They only wander onto your property in search of food or shelter. There is no other scientific explanation for it. Which is why, sealing your garages to prevent critters from wandering in is a prerequisite part of life. If you allow it to happen you’ll end up getting hurt; not only by the possibility of being bitten by a wild animal, but also by the dent in your wallet when calling in pest control.

Companies like Garage Accessories R US advise that there are several other reasons why you should use garage door floor seals; and to quote just a few- garage door seals keep out leaves, dirt, water, snow and unwanted insects and also help to save money by insulating your garage in the winter. The Tsunami Seal® will keep your garage in great condition and can help preserve the life of your garage door. You don’t need any extra skill to perform the installation, anyone can do it.

Prefabricated garage kits can be the best solution for people who want to have their own garage, but there is no technical possibility to add it to the actual house configuration. If your backyard is big enough, why let the cars in the wind and in the rain, when you can get them protected by the garage walls? Only think of how often you need a car wash when you keep your car outside, and especially under some trees. Birds are very productive, and they don’t look down, nor they stay away from your car. You cannot believe what a couple of pigeons can do to your hood and windows. Then, why not buying a prefab steel garage that’s easy to install and not too expensive, to keep your car safe?

Prefabricated garage kits: content

Such kits are build of metal, and they contain besides the actual garage parts, the garage door and the door opener mechanism, which you will be able to operate by remote control, in order to avoid getting out of your car each time you enter or exit the garage. This is a handy accessory which you’ll love once you’ll get it in place and operating.
They would also come with detailed instructions, so you’ll be able to do it yourself, without requiring the specialist in garage installation. You’d better check the instructions before you buy your prefabricated garage kit, otherwise you might get in trouble later on, when installing it.

In case there are two cars in your family, you can opt for one of the 2-car models of prefabricated garage kits, otherwise your wife would use the garage and your car will still be at weather’s mercy. Never underestimate the feminine power.
Make sure, before you buy your garage kit, that you have all necessary tools for setting it up, plus ask the seller how many people are required to perform those operations. There may be phases of the project when at least two people are required, and if you cannot ask a friend to help you, you may need to hire some staff from the store. Nevertheless, you’ll be given all required mounting instructions together with your purchase, and most of the times, the sketches are very clear, so putting together your garage is almost a no brainer.

I don’t know the price of such prefabricated garage kits, but I suppose they vary with the size, the shape and the manufacturer. Beware at transportation costs, because they may be significant. You’d better check the garage companies in your area. This would save you time and money.

The Genie Company is one of America’s best known and trusted consumer brand names. Genie garage doors have an illustrious history that underscore its commitment to innovation. Moreover, Genie garage door openers are known for their long time of operation without needing repairs and for their easy installation.

Many garage owners who decide for an upgrade and go for buying a remote control door opener ask themselves if they need a specialist to install it, or they can do it by themselves. Genie has the answers in their animated installation instructions. You watch the film, then decide if that’s a job you can do or not. Genie provides you with the tools you need, so you can buy them before you start installing your opener. Tools like the electric drill, the hammers and the screwdrive are probably found in many homes, but you’ll also need a carpenter’s level, a socket wrench, a step ladder and a few more tools you may have to buy or borrow.

Genie is so trustful in the ability of their clients to install the openers by themselves, that they are selling even products from their premium line in stores such as Home Depot, Sears or Lowe’s. For example, the Genie Direct Lift screw drive garage door opener is considered a do-it-yourself product and it is sold with an installation manual.

The Genie Company History

Founded in 1923, and known in its early days as the Alliance Manufacturing Company, the company produced a broad line of consumer, industrial and military products. When America was at war in the 1940´s, Alliance’s factories produced everything from fuse caps and voltage regulators to canteen handles and generators. In May 1954, the Alliance Manufacturing Company first produced its own garage door opener unit. Genie was the first mass-produced, radio-controlled residential garage door opener, becoming the market leader in design, safety and reliable service – core values Genie still upholds to this day. In the years following the introduction of the original opener Genie, engineering innovations brought about the development of the first screw drive opener in 1958. Further design refinements ultimately resulted in the offering of a split rail. This innovation opened opportunities to mass retailers for the first time in the mid 1970´s. Consumer appeal for this product grew alongside the rapidly developing do-it-yourself market. In 1983 the company entered the home and shop vacuum market, and in 1985 it changed its name to Genie Home Products.

By the time Overhead Door Corporation purchased the company in 1994, the Genie name had become well-known for its reliability for millions of customers around the world. Its continuing focus on product quality, innovation and service remains the hallmark of Genie’s legacy.

Today, Genie manufactures remote-controlled garage door opening systems for multiple distribution channels, as well as a full line of commercial operators private labeled exclusively for Overhead Door distributors. Genie’s line of garage door openers include advanced features such as the Intellicode remote access security system that automatically changes the security code to one of billions of combinations each time the transmitter is activated, as well as the Safe-T-Beam infrared beam system that senses objects in the door’s path to prevent entrapment.

You can search for distributors for Genie garage door openers in your area here.
